I went to a seminar at Yorkshire County Cricket Ground on 24 November 2011 regarding social media for business. Now, I have been on Twitter and Facebook for a while as an individual and even set up a business Twitter account as well as registered on LinkedIn but never really used them. I also have a couple of personal blogs which I use for topics which are of interest to me such as health and fitness, holidays and other random things. However, I don’t really know how to use them for business.
The seminar I went to was an introduction to social media which while I knew a lot of the stuff which was covered I certainly picked up a couple of tips. I mean, I’d never heard of Google Alert (which reminds me I must do something about using that in the next couple of days). Shaa Wasmund, the presenter, was great and had some great anecdotal stories to tell to get her point across. I came out with some great ideas which I could see would work great for my husband’s business, I’m just not sure how to apply them to my own – yet! I wish I could have booked on the afternoon seminar too but it was fully booked by the time I found out about it so I hope that Business Link Yorkshire get Shaa back up to Yorkshire soon.
So, here I am setting up a “business” blog which I hope I will use and not leave sitting idle. I have set up a Facebook business page too but am not sure how to make the most of it. I have also set up a Twitter account for my husband’s business (Teach-2-Drive) as I feel that he is missing out on opportunities by not being out there. I also have lots of blog ideas for him, especially at this time of year – driving in snow, driving in fog, road safety, winter sun… and the list goes on. After 26 years in the driver training industry, he truly is an expert in his field and, although he is still learning (we never stop do we?), he has such a depth of knowledge I think he should share some of it with the world. Watch this space, he will have a blog soon even if I have to type it myself!
